Festus Kisa


Festus Kisa is a 27 year-old male who works as Programme Coordinator for Q-Initiative Eldoret – a community-based organisation that works with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) and Gender Non-Conforming persons in Eldoret, Kenya. He describes himself as a feminist, a human rights defender and a sexual reproductive health advocate.

With a strong background in Social Work and Human Rights, Kisa has in the last few years focused on sexuality development, sexual reproductive health, gender-based violence, HIV, mental health and women’s empowerment, with a specific focus on LGBT persons and sex workers. Kisa believes in adopting inter-sectional feminist approaches in addressing the injustices faced by marginalised groups as well as involving men and boys in the fight against gender inequality.

He is a Sexuality Leadership Development 2015 fellow, a Centre for Human Rights alumni 2015, as well as a WMATI alumni class of 2016. When he is not doing social justice work, Kisa enjoys making clothes from African print fabric and traveling.
